Business Leaders Advocate for Enhanced Employee Wellness

During the Employee Assistance Programme Summit 2026 held on Wednesday in Ikeja, Lagos, business leaders called for a greater focus on employee wellness to enhance workforce productivity. The event, organized by Sages and Scribes Consultants, featured Mr Olaniyi Yusuf, Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, who outlined eight dimensions of wellness: financial, social, physical, spiritual, environmental, occupational, emotional, and intellectual.
Yusuf stressed that wellness should be intentional and structural, as neglecting it leads to increased absenteeism and decreased productivity. Leye Kupoluyi, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, shared statistics indicating that only 20% of employees are engaged globally due to poor wellness practices.
Ven Adelowo Adesina, Managing Consultant of Sages and Scribes, emphasized that organizational success relies on the well-being of employees. Adebola David, a People Transformation Consultant, urged companies to implement measures for mental health support and monitor employee burnout and disengagement.
