BYM to Sue NIPSS DG Over 'Berom Militia' Comments

The Berom Youth Moulder Association (BYM) has announced plans to file a lawsuit against Professor Ayo Omotayo, the Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), following derogatory comments made about the Berom people during a television interview on Friday. Omotayo referred to the Berom ethnic group as "Berom militia," which has incited significant anger among the Berom community in Plateau State.

This comment came in the wake of recent attacks that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including security personnel. In response to the backlash, BYM issued a statement demanding an immediate withdrawal of Omotayo's remarks and a public apology.

They condemned the comments as reckless and misleading, arguing that such labeling unjustly criminalizes the entire Berom ethnic group and could lead to discrimination and violence against innocent citizens. BYM emphasized their commitment to peace and coexistence in Nigeria and warned that failure to meet their demands would leave them no choice but to seek redress in court.
