CAF President Motsepe to Enhance VAR and Review Regulations Post AFCON 2025 Controversies

CAF President Patrice Motsepe has declared a comprehensive review of regulations and enhancements to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system after disputes arose during the AFCON 2025 final in Morocco. Motsepe expressed disappointment over the incidents and emphasized the commitment to upholding the integrity and reputation of African football.

The review will include revisiting CAF's disciplinary code to empower the judicial body to impose appropriate sanctions for serious violations. Motsepe highlighted advancements in refereeing standards and VAR operations, with increased investments to ensure African referees meet global standards.

He also mentioned reforms introduced during his presidency to enhance the independence and impartiality of the refereeing committee.
