Canada, UNICEF Commit to Boost Bauchi's Economy and Health

Canada, UNICEF, and other international partners have expressed their commitment to implementing multi-million dollar interventions in Bauchi State to enhance various sectors of the economy, particularly healthcare, education, and agricultural welfare. During a five-day visit, Arash Irantalah, head of Global Affairs Canada, commended the Bauchi State government for its bold commitment to strengthening its healthcare system, especially following the declaration of a health sector emergency.

He emphasized the importance of consolidating investments already made in the state. UNICEF's Deputy Representative in Nigeria, Dr.

Rownak Khan, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. The Bauchi State government, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, has allocated 15% of its annual budget to healthcare, aligning with global recommendations.

The state has also committed to a total of 872 million naira for nutrition interventions, with additional funding planned for 2026. Various officials acknowledged the significant contributions of Global Affairs Canada in improving education and addressing gender-based violence.
