CHAN: Kenya coach, McCarthy credits Mourinho after using his tactics against Morocco

Kenya's coach, Benni McCarthy, credited Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho for his tactical approach in their African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco. Despite making their CHAN debut, Kenya managed to defeat the reigning champions, Morocco, in a Group tie on Sunday.

The match saw Kenya take the lead through Ryan Ogam in the 42nd minute, but soon after, midfielder Chrispine Erambo was sent off, leaving Kenya to defend their lead with 10 men for the rest of the game. McCarthy, who had played under Mourinho at FC Porto, praised the Portuguese manager's game management skills, which he applied in the match.

He emphasized the importance of tightening up defensively and sacrificing attacking flair to secure the lead, a tactic he learned from Mourinho. McCarthy highlighted the need for players to adapt and work collectively when a team is down to 10 men, a strategy he referred to as "parking the train in front.".
