Kaduna Appoints Climate Desk Officers in 23 LGAs

The Kaduna State Government has appointed climate change desk officers, referred to as "Climate Champions," across all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to facilitate the understanding of climate concepts in local languages. Yusuf Idris-Amoke, Special Assistant to Governor Uba Sani on climate change, announced this initiative at the Climate Hangout in Kaduna.

The officers will act as intermediaries between rural communities and state policymakers, collecting feedback on climate change impacts such as soil degradation, declining crop yields, erosion, and health issues. This data will be relayed to the central government for prompt action.

Following the approval of the Kaduna State Climate Change Policy under Governor Sani's administration, a comprehensive implementation framework was developed, leading to the establishment of these local desk offices. Idris-Amoke emphasized the importance of local knowledge in addressing environmental issues and highlighted a successful collaboration between a local tailor and a textile recycler as an example of eco-innovation.

The state government is committed to supporting grassroots innovators through networking and policy backing.
