PDP and APC Clash in Gwagwalada Ahead of Elections

On late Monday, a violent confrontation erupted between supporters of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwagwalada, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The clash began in Paiko Ward during an APC campaign visit, where allegations arose regarding the removal of past campaign posters belonging to a PDP candidate.

This led to a backlash from PDP supporters, resulting in the burning of two houses and damage to vehicles. Eyewitnesses, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the houses belonged to an APC chieftain, Ibn Ja Afar.

A Facebook post by Jafaru claimed that PDP members were responsible for the violence, labeling them as "bandits" and "terrorists." As of the time of reporting, police had not yet responded to the incident. Images circulating on social media depicted the destruction, including a store and parts of a building being set ablaze.

The violence has raised concerns among residents as the area approaches the council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
