Chelsea to Release Slonina and Wiley Under Xabi Alonso

Chelsea FC is preparing to release American players Gabriel Slonina and Caleb Wiley as part of a squad overhaul initiated by new head coach Xabi Alonso ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. Gabriel Slonina, a goalkeeper, joined Chelsea from Chicago Fire in 2022 but has yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

He has had loan spells at Eupen and Barnsley, although his time at Barnsley coincided with the team's relegation. Caleb Wiley, a defender, arrived in West London from Atlanta United in 2024 but has also faced challenges in securing first-team football.

He previously had a loan stint with Strasbourg and returned to Watford for a second spell, which was impacted by injuries. Both players are expected to seek loan moves or permanent departures this summer to revive their careers and aim for a spot in the USA national team for the 2030 World Cup.
