Casting Drama Surrounds "Children of Blood and Bone" Film

The film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's novel "Children of Blood and Bone," directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is set to premiere on January 15. Prince-Bythewood, who previously directed "The Woman King," initially turned down the project twice over seven years due to feeling unprepared.

She ultimately accepted the role, stating her experience had equipped her to handle the film's scale. However, behind-the-scenes drama emerged regarding the casting of Amandla Stenberg as Princess Amari.

In February 2025, Stenberg addressed backlash over colorism in a now-deleted TikTok, claiming Adeyemi supported her casting. Adeyemi later posted a deleted TikTok explaining her decision to stop promoting the adaptation, revealing a contentious exchange with Stenberg that ended with her blocking the actress.

This situation has led to Adeyemi distancing herself from the film, raising concerns about the adaptation's reception.
