China Sends Third Medical Team to DRC for Ebola Response

On Saturday, China's third medical expert team for the Ebola response arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Luku Maleyo Marius, a representative of the DRC Health Ministry, welcomed the team at the airport, stating that the Ebola situation in the DRC remains severe and that response efforts are under considerable pressure.

The Chinese experts are expected to provide significant support in epidemic surveillance, patient treatment, and laboratory testing. Yang Xiaochen, the head of the third expert team, indicated that they would build on the work of the previous two teams, offering technical assistance based on practical needs and fostering cooperation with DRC health authorities and international partners.

The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC is reported to be the largest ever recorded in the country, surpassing the 2018-2020 epidemic, according to the World Health Organization.
