China to Lead BRICS Presidency in 2027, Says Xi Jinping

During the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on 12 September 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China will take over the presidency of BRICS in 2027. Xi highlighted that the BRICS cooperation mechanism has become the world's most influential platform for collaboration among emerging markets and developing countries.

He urged BRICS nations to stand firmly on the right side of history and to pioneer innovative development. Xi called for BRICS to take a leading role in maintaining global peace and development, particularly in the Middle East and Gulf region.

He emphasized the need for cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, promoting new industrialization, opposing Cold War mentalities, and upholding the authority of the United Nations. Additionally, he advocated for rejecting protectionism and enhancing global governance in various domains, including cyberspace and outer space.
