Dong Calls for Restraint at Beijing Xiangshan Forum

During the opening of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, Dong called on nations to refrain from provocative actions that prioritize individual or group interests over regional stability. He warned against ignoring such behaviors and advocated for a united front to address international tensions.

Dong's comments did not directly target the United States or its allies, including Japan, but were interpreted as a reaffirmation of China's longstanding positions. This statement follows remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who suggested that a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could prompt a military response from Japan, leading to accusations from Beijing of Japan seeking to revive its aggressive past.

The Xiangshan Forum is attended by approximately 2,000 military officers, diplomats, and academics from various countries, serving as a structured counterpart to Singapore’s Shangri-La Dialogue.
