Xi Jinping Advocates for Stronger Disaster Response in China

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged for stronger measures to prevent, mitigate, and respond to natural disasters in light of recent deadly floods and landslides across China. His remarks, published in Qiushi, followed the country experiencing its strongest typhoon of the year, which caused significant flooding and disruption.

Xi's call for action included a focus on disaster prevention, improved monitoring and early-warning systems, and addressing deficiencies in flood-control and drainage infrastructure, particularly in northern China. The recent extreme weather events have resulted in tragic fatalities, including 25 deaths from flash floods in Gansu province and 51 from a landslide in Chongqing.

Xi warned that disaster risks should not spill over into economic, energy, food, and social security sectors. He advocated for the deployment of technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and satellite remote sensing in rescue operations to enhance disaster response capabilities.
