CHRICED and German Partners Launch Human Rights Project

CHRICED, in collaboration with German partners, has launched a project designed to enhance human rights reporting in Nigeria. The initiative aims to strengthen media freedom and encourage citizen participation in governance amidst rising concerns over shrinking civic space and pressure on independent journalism.

During the official launch in Abuja, Dr. Ibrahim M.

Zikirullahi, the Executive Director of CHRICED, described the program as a movement dedicated to amplifying the voices of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups whose stories are often overlooked. The project will invest in training and technology to help journalists and civic actors document human rights abuses, expose corruption, and promote resilience stories across communities.

Dr. Zikirullahi emphasized that democracy cannot thrive without a free press and urged stakeholders to collaborate in building a media environment that protects journalists and empowers citizens.

The initiative is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and will be implemented by a team led by Julia Krojer.
