Christine Drazan Wins Oregon GOP Primary for Governor

Christine Drazan emerged victorious in the Oregon Republican gubernatorial primary, securing the opportunity to challenge Democrat Governor Tina Kotek in the upcoming November general election. Drazan won against 14 candidates in the Republican primary race, having previously lost to Kotek by less than four percentage points in the 2022 election.

The race is expected to attract significant attention due to the close results of previous elections, as Republicans have not won a gubernatorial election in Oregon since 1982. Drazan, who previously served as the Republican leader in the Oregon House of Representatives and later won a seat in the Oregon Senate, focused her campaign on economic concerns, including reducing housing costs and addressing the rising cost of living.

Among her opponents in the primary was Chris Dudley, a former professional basketball player and financial planner, who previously ran for governor in 2010 as the Republican nominee but lost to former Democrat Governor John Kitzhaber by fewer than two percentage points.
