Chukwuemeka Switches International Eligibility to Austria

Carnei Chukwuemeka, a 22-year-old midfielder currently with Borussia Dortmund, has officially switched his international eligibility from England to Austria in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. Chukwuemeka, who was born in Austria, had previously represented England at various junior levels but did not earn a senior cap.

His decision comes as Austria prepares to face defending champions Argentina, along with Algeria and Jordan, in the group stage of the World Cup. The switch was confirmed by FIFA on a Monday, and Chukwuemeka is expected to feature in Austria's upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and South Korea in March.

He joined Dortmund on loan from Chelsea, with a permanent deal set to be finalized in the summer of 2025. In his time at Dortmund, he has scored two goals in 20 league appearances.

Notably, fellow midfielder Paul Wanner has also made a similar switch from Germany to Austria.
