Church Donates MRI Scanner to Boost Abia State Healthcare

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner to Abia State, as announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Okei Kanu, during a press interaction in Umuahia. This donation is part of Governor Alex Otti's healthcare transformation agenda, aimed at significantly improving diagnostic capabilities across the state.

The MRI scanner will be installed at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba. Kanu also revealed that the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme recorded 157,462 new enrollees recently, aligning with the governor's vision to provide accessible healthcare.

Furthermore, the governor approved the recruitment of an additional 50 nurses, increasing the total employment under the program to 550. The state is also collaborating with the Nigerian Physicians America for free medical outreach scheduled for April 12-17, 2026.

Recent upgrades in healthcare facilities have led to successful medical interventions, showcasing the positive impact of the state government's initiatives.
