CNG Initiative Cuts Transport Fares by Up to 50% in Nigeria

The Federal Government's Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles reported that some public transport routes have experienced fare reductions of 15 to 50 percent due to the transition to compressed natural gas (CNG). This announcement was made during a media engagement in Kano organized by the Decade of Gas Secretariat.
Tosin Coker, Chief Operating Officer of PI-CNG & EV, emphasized that CNG can lower transportation costs and aid Nigeria's shift to cleaner mobility, while also stressing the importance of safety in vehicle conversions. Currently, 670 CNG buses are deployed nationwide, with 285 operating commercially across 13 states.
Plans are in place for 127 additional CNG refuelling stations to enhance access to CNG. Kano State is highlighted as a key area for cleaner mobility, with seven operational refuelling stations and 17 more under construction.
The initiative aims to expand affordable transportation options and improve energy security in Nigeria.
