Coal City University Denies Salary Arrears Allegations

Coal City University, located in Enugu, has refuted allegations regarding salary arrears and a purported six-month strike by staff. Vice Chancellor Professor Afam Icha Ituma stated during a press conference that these claims are false and misleading, lacking factual basis.

He emphasized that the university does not owe salaries to its employees and that staff salaries are consistently paid. The university also addressed a June 10 incident involving a student and a staff member, asserting that it acted promptly in accordance with internal governance procedures.

The matter was made public, leading to the establishment of a review committee to investigate the incident. Professor Ituma noted that the university's legal team is engaged in demanding retractions of inaccurate reports and urged the public to rely on verified information from official channels.

Additionally, he mentioned that the university is conducting a broader review of policies related to student welfare and staff conduct.
