Wigwe University Vice-Chancellor Denies Mass Sack Claims

Prof. Marwan Al-Akaidi, the Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University, has refuted claims of mass staff terminations at the institution, labeling the reports as false and misleading.

In a telephone interview, he clarified that only two or three staff members departed last year following due process, and no employees have been terminated this year. Al-Akaidi stated that the separations were strictly performance-based and adhered to established disciplinary procedures.

He highlighted the commitment of the university's Governing Council, Board of Trustees, and management team to uphold high academic and operational standards, in line with the vision of the late founder, Herbert Wigwe. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that decisions regarding staff retention involve a transparent and collective governance structure, ensuring fairness and accountability.

Wigwe University, licensed in 2023, admitted its first class in October 2024 and currently has approximately 300 students enrolled across 21 degree programs offered through its four colleges.
