Coalition Demands Review of NRS Directors' Appointments

A coalition of concerned Nigerian citizens, led by Amand M. Solomon, is advocating for a review of the recent appointments of executive directors at the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS).

Solomon addressed journalists, highlighting that the appointments contravene the provisions of the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Act of 2025, specifically Section 17(1), which mandates that six executive directors be appointed to represent geopolitical zones on a rotational basis. The coalition observed that the recent appointments do not fully reflect the requirements of the Act.

They noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized adherence to the rule of law and due process in such appointments. The coalition, comprising members from five geopolitical zones, visited the NRS headquarters to submit a letter outlining their concerns and requesting a review of the appointments.

They believe that the rotational arrangement should have produced nominees from Adamawa State instead of Borno State, Benue State instead of Niger State, and so on. The coalition expects feedback from relevant authorities within two weeks and aims to strengthen adherence to due process and promote public confidence in the Nigerian government.
