Protest Planned Over NRS Executive Director Appointments

The Coalition Concern Nigerian Citizens has formally notified the Chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) of their intention to embark on a second phase of peaceful protests. This decision, communicated in a letter dated March 2, 2026, alleges that the recent appointments of five out of six executive directors violate the statutory provisions outlined in Part IV, Section 17(1) of the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025.

The group, led by convenor Comrad Amand M. Solomon, previously held a protest at the NRS headquarters on February 16, 2026, to draw attention to what they term grave breaches of the established statutory procedures for appointments.

The Act, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mandates that six executive directors represent geopolitical zones on a rotational basis, with specific alphabetical order stipulations. The coalition claims that the appointments do not comply with this principle, citing specific instances where states were incorrectly represented, such as Borno State instead of Adamawa State for the North East, and others for different regions.
