Army Chief Shaibu Enhances Troops' Welfare in Abuja

On September 21, 2026, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), commissioned refurbished operational vehicles and the Nightingale Club at 1 Women Battalion in Giri, Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance troops' mobility, operational responsiveness, and welfare.

During the ceremony, represented by Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, the COAS emphasized the importance of serviceable mobility assets for prompt troop movement in response to operational needs. He directed commanders to ensure proper maintenance and responsible handling of the vehicles, which are considered national assets.

The Nightingale Club is described as a strategic investment in the human element of military effectiveness, providing recreational opportunities and promoting morale among personnel and their families. Brigadier General Muhammed Sani Adamu, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women Command, supported this view, highlighting the necessity of a supportive environment for a resilient force.

The COAS commended the collective efforts that led to the successful completion of these projects.
