Cristian Volpato Investigated for Cocaine After Speeding

Cristian Volpato, a 22-year-old midfielder and Australian international footballer, is currently under investigation by New South Wales Police after allegedly returning a positive roadside oral fluid test for cocaine. This incident occurred following two separate speeding stops on Thursday night in Sydney.

Volpato was first stopped at approximately 11:05 p.m. for allegedly driving between 86km/h and 94km/h in a 60km/h zone. He passed a breathalyser test for alcohol and continued driving.

However, he was stopped again roughly two hours later for allegedly exceeding the speed limit at 109km/h in the same zone. During this second stop, a roadside oral fluid screening indicated the presence of cocaine.

Authorities issued him a speeding infringement notice and suspended his international driver’s licence for six months. A secondary oral fluid sample has been sent for laboratory analysis to confirm the presence of prohibited substances.

Volpato recently represented Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after switching his international allegiance from Italy.
