Three Dead, 12 Rescued in Ogun Building Collapse

On Monday, a mixed-use building in Ajuwon, Ogun State, collapsed during a downpour, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including an adult woman, a baby, and a 75-year-old man. Twelve others were rescued from the debris as emergency responders continued search-and-rescue operations.

The building, which contained two shops on the ground floor and residential apartments above, was located at OGS Bus Stop, Baale Road. Eyewitnesses reported that the heavy rain forced many residents indoors, leading to a full occupancy at the time of the collapse around 3 PM.

A local commercial motorcyclist, Godwin, stated that the lower part of the building sank, causing the structure to crumble. Another resident, Ajibola, criticized the delayed emergency response, suggesting that more lives could have been saved.

Shop owner Bisola mentioned that the building showed no visible signs of distress prior to the incident. The Ogun State Government has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the tragedy.
