Ogun Governor Orders Probe into Building Collapse

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the collapse of a two-storey building on Baale Road, Ajuwon, in Ifo Local Government Area, which occurred on Monday afternoon after heavy rainfall. The incident resulted in three fatalities, while 12 occupants were rescued.

Preliminary findings from a multi-agency investigation team indicated a catastrophic structural failure, with lower floors sinking and only parts of the upper slab visible. Governor Abiodun, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, stated that anyone violating building regulations would face prosecution.

He reiterated the government's commitment to enforcing physical planning regulations. Eyewitnesses reported that the collapse happened around 3 p.m., following intense thunderstorms and lightning.

Emergency responders, including various state ministries and the Nigeria Police Force, quickly mobilized for search-and-rescue operations. Despite initial searches yielding no victims, controlled excavations led to the recovery of one deceased individual.

The investigation team noted that the exact cause of the collapse remains undetermined, pending further detailed investigations.
