Seven Miners Die in Plateau State Mining Pit Collapse

On Wednesday evening, a mining pit in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, collapsed, resulting in the deaths of seven miners. The incident occurred around 7pm while the miners were engaged in their activities.

Albert Danlami, a community resident, reported that the miners were trapped underground, prompting immediate rescue efforts from locals and fellow miners. Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, confirmed the fatalities, stating that despite rescue attempts, all seven miners were found dead.

The tragedy has deeply affected the Kassa community, with residents describing the event as devastating and calling for urgent government action to enhance mining safety. Timothy Bako, a community member, emphasized the lack of safety measures at the site, urging the government to regulate mining operations to prevent future incidents.

Community leaders are appealing to the Plateau State Government for assistance to the victims' families and stricter safety enforcement at mining sites.
