Niger State Denies Existence of Bandits Amid Raids

Alhaji Umaru Sanda Rabe, the Niger State Commissioner for Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs, asserted that there are no bandits or bandit camps within Niger State despite ongoing raids by bandits and terrorists. He explained that these criminal elements conduct attacks from neighboring states, including Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kogi, as well as the Republic of Benin.

Rabe noted that the state’s vastness and strategic location contribute to its vulnerability. To address security threats, the Niger State Government has initiated a profiling process for herders migrating into the state, ensuring they do not pose risks to local communities.

Rabe mentioned that officials have visited various communities, including Gbeganu, Kutigi, Lapai, and Gurara, to profile herders and require them to provide guarantors for their conduct. Additionally, the government has implemented stricter regulations on livestock movement and is committed to enhancing the welfare of herders, with 275 nomadic schools and 60 boreholes constructed for improved access to water.
