Ajayi Wins London Diamond League, Sets Stage for 2026 Games

Kayinsola Ajayi achieved a remarkable victory in the men's 100m at the London Diamond League on Saturday, producing a world-class performance that equaled Nigeria's national record with a time of 9.84 seconds. This victory comes just days before the Commonwealth Games 2026, where Ajayi is expected to represent Team Nigeria and is regarded as one of the country's brightest medal prospects.

He defeated reigning world championship silver medalist Oblique Seville from Jamaica, who finished second with a time of 9.87 seconds. The Nigeria's Sports Commission (NSC) commended Ajayi for his impressive performance on the global stage, noting that his form provides confidence for Team Nigeria as they prepare for the Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow.

The event will feature around 3,000 athletes competing in 10 sports, and the NSC expressed confidence in the country's athletes as they aim to build on Nigeria's proud Commonwealth Games legacy.
