Communities Stranded as Terrorists Destroy Police Stations

A significant number of communities across Nigeria are currently without police presence following the destruction of police stations by terrorist groups. Investigations reveal that at least seven states, including Zamfara and Sokoto, are affected, leaving millions of residents vulnerable to kidnappings and violent attacks.

In Zamfara alone, over 1,000 communities lack security presence, with local leaders like Garba Sani reporting that residents have been forced to relocate to Gusau, the state capital, due to persistent bandit attacks. Despite repeated requests for the establishment of police stations and the redeployment of security personnel, no action has been taken.

Senior police officials have acknowledged that the personnel are overwhelmed and inadequately equipped to confront the armed groups. Notably, there have been attacks on police stations, including the killing of officers in March 2023 and February 2024.

The Zamfara State Police Command maintains that 20 police stations across the state remain operational despite these challenges.
