Residents Decry Poor Conditions of Enugu-Makurdi Road

Commuters and residents using the 9th Mile–Obollo-Afor–Makurdi Federal Highway and the Obollo-Afor–Eha-Amufu–Nkalagu road have lamented the deteriorating conditions of these routes. They reported that the abandonment of construction works has made major sections nearly impassable, exposing travelers to risks of kidnapping and vehicle breakdowns.

Commercial driver Chisom Njoku stated that the dualisation project has exacerbated the road's poor condition, making it more dangerous for users. He urged the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the road, highlighting the dual threats of vehicle damage and insecurity.

Residents like Beatrice Ugwu reported severe dust pollution affecting health and local businesses due to unpaved earthworks left by contractors. Emmanuel Odo noted that farmers are struggling to transport their produce, leading to economic hardship as perishable goods spoil due to increased transport costs.

The situation has created a "double jeopardy" for road users, combining mechanical damage with security threats.
