Manchester City FC Found Guilty of Financial Misconduct

The Premier League confirmed that Manchester City FC is guilty of serious breaches of its financial regulations occurring between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. The independent commission's findings, released following an investigation that began in 2023, indicated that the club inflated revenues and reduced costs through 'sham' contracts with commercial partners.

Manchester City was found to have filed misstated accounts and concealed its financial status from auditors and regulators. Additionally, the club was guilty of failing to cooperate with the investigation, with three of four alleged breaches upheld.

The Premier League detailed that Manchester City artificially inflated revenues by over £900 million during the nine-year period and used unethical practices involving its Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development Ltd (ADUG) to manipulate sponsorship deals. EPL Chief Executive Richard Masters described the case as the most significant in the league's history and called for swift action regarding the sanctions that will follow.
