Cooking Gas Prices Drop as Supply Improves in Nigeria

In July 2026, Nigeria's cooking gas market improved significantly due to stronger domestic supply, with total Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply rising to 5.332 kilotonnes per day (KT/D) from 5.164 KT/D in June, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Domestic sources accounted for 4.373 KT/D (82% of total supply), while imports contributed 0.958 KT/D (18%).

The average price of cooking gas in Lagos dropped to about N1,235 per kilogramme from approximately N1,776/kg in June, marking a decline of nearly 30%. Other cities also saw price reductions, with Ibadan prices falling from N1,775/kg to N1,540/kg, and Enugu from N1,625/kg to N1,550/kg.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, had previously directed marketers to increase imports to stabilize the market. An emergency stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja contributed to improved supply conditions, with national LPG supply sufficiency increasing from around 11 days to 22 days.
