Ndukwe Kalu Foundation Leads Child Protection Summit in Abuja
The Ndukwe Kalu Foundation (NKF) organized the Child Online Safety, Protection and Reporting of Abuse (COSPRA) 2026 Summit in Abuja, focusing on protecting children online in the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Executive Secretary Erica Okibe stated that the summit aligns with UNICEF’s policy, which emphasizes accountability for digital platforms and governments rather than placing the burden of safety on children.
She highlighted the dangers posed by AI, including grooming, exploitation, and cyberbullying. Okibe noted that NKF was established by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) to honor Engr. Ndukwe Kalu, who passed away 17 years ago, and has been dedicated to child protection since 2013.
Mr. Dasuki I. Arabi, director-general of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, warned about the unregulated nature of AI, which poses risks to both children and adults. Mrs. Mary Uduma, chairperson of NKF's Board of Trustees, called for collective responsibility among lawmakers, tech businesses, and civil society to protect Nigerian children online.
