Three Convicted for Obstructing FRSC Operatives in Kano

On July 10, 2023, three individuals—Sani Saidu, Ma'arazu Sani, and Suwedi Muhammad—were arrested in Kano State for allegedly obstructing Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol operations during a routine enforcement exercise. Their actions reportedly incited public members against the FRSC officers carrying out their lawful duties.

Following their arrest, the suspects were brought before the magistrate court in Tudun Wada on July 14, where they pleaded guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy to obstruct a public servant discharging their lawful duties, assaulting a public servant, and threatening to cause injury. The court convicted them under sections 96, 148, and 263 of the Penal Code, sentencing each to three weeks of imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 Naira for criminal conspiracy, one month of imprisonment and a fine of 40,000 Naira for obstructing a public servant, and two weeks of imprisonment and a fine of 20,000 Naira for assaulting a public servant.

The FRSC's Kano Sector Command, represented by Abdullahi Labaran, commended the judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force for ensuring the prosecution of the offenders and warned against obstructing or assaulting FRSC personnel.
