Court Ruling Won't Halt Blue Silk Rank Conferment

The Body of Senior Counsel of Nigeria (BOSCON) and the Nigerian Legal Society (NLS) issued a joint statement confirming their decision to continue conferring the Blue Silk rank to deserving lawyers, despite a restraining order from the Federal High Court in Abuja. The order, granted by Justice James Omotosho, was aimed at Aldrap, which had sought to introduce the Blue Silk rank and was restrained from doing so.

Aldrap has filed a notice of appeal against the judgment, arguing that Justice Omotosho lacked jurisdiction over the matter. The statement clarified that the court's restraining order does not bind BOSCON or NLS, as they were not parties to the lawsuit.

The legal basis for this decision references the legal principle that a judgment does not affect parties not involved in the suit. Therefore, BOSCON and NLS will proceed with their plans to confer the rank, emphasizing that the legal foundation for their actions remains intact.
