Court Grants Omoyele Sowore N200m Bail with Conditions

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the amount of N200 million. The court stipulated that Sowore must provide two sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler from his community in Odo Local Government Area, Ondo State, while the second must own property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Additionally, Sowore is required to surrender his international passport to the court's deputy registrar for safekeeping. This ruling follows the revocation of Sowore's previous bail, which was granted on self-recognition in December 2022, after he failed to appear in court for a trial scheduled for June 16, 2026.

Justice Umar Mohammed ordered Sowore to be held at Kuje Correctional Centre until the motion regarding the revocation of his bail is determined. Sowore faces charges of cybercrime and defamation related to comments made about President Bola Tinubu on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
