CRCi and NBA Launch Reading and Rights Campaign in Rivers

The Children Reading for a Change Initiative (CRCi), in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Degema branch, and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), launched a campaign titled ‘Reading Children, Empowered Community’ in Rivers State. This initiative gathered approximately 400 pupils and students, along with over 100 parents, at the Degema Local Government council office complex.
It is the first of three planned campaigns for Degema, Asari-Toru, and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas, following approval from the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for CRCi to implement reading programs. The event included sensitization sessions on reading, academic excellence, and children's rights, alongside the distribution of over 200 copies of the book ‘The Village Boy and His Computer’ and nearly 1,000 branded exercise books.
Opiribo Amachree, the convener, highlighted the importance of reading habits and the establishment of reading and human rights clubs in schools to foster engagement and awareness among students.
