Atiku, Amaechi Support El-Rufai After Airport Incident

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi visited former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai at his Abuja residence late Thursday night. This visit was in solidarity following an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where security agents attempted to arrest El-Rufai without a warrant.

The situation escalated as El-Rufai, who had just returned from Cairo, Egypt, refused to accompany the agents, insisting on a formal invitation or warrant. Muyiwa Adekey, El-Rufai's media adviser, confirmed the attempt and shared a video of the chaotic scene at the airport, where bystanders supported El-Rufai.

The agents reportedly seized El-Rufai's international passport before leaving. Atiku condemned the "crude, unorthodox" attempt to arrest El-Rufai, emphasizing that such actions deviate from constitutional mandates and recalling recommendations from the Uwai panel on electoral reform regarding the EFCC's independence.

As of the time of reporting, neither the DSS nor the EFCC had issued statements regarding the incident.
