Crystal Palace Sports Centre £130m Revamp Plans Approved

Bromley Council is set to discuss plans for a £130 million redevelopment of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, with planning officers recommending approval. The project, led by the Greater London Authority and London’s mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, includes renovations to the athletics stadium, indoor arena, and swimming and diving facilities.

Supporters argue that the revamped centre will enhance sporting opportunities in south London, while objectors express concerns that some sports may be disadvantaged. The proposal has attracted considerable community feedback, with 390 supportive responses and 406 objections.

Proponents believe the revitalization will not only restore the centre, described as “the beating heart of Crystal Palace,” but also help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour by increasing sports engagement. England Athletics has endorsed the project, stating it will secure the site's long-term future and transform it into a modern, inclusive, and sustainable athletics centre.
