CSLS Urges Quick Passage of ACJA Amendment Bill

The Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS) has called on the National Assembly to prioritize the speedy passage of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) Amendment Bill currently under consideration. This appeal emphasizes the significant advantages the bill could bring to Nigeria's justice sector.
The CSLS commended President Bola Tinubu for sponsoring the bill through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. During an event marking the conclusion of the CSLS project on “Improving Criminal Justice Administration through the National Minimum Standards (NMS),” Professor Yemi Akinseye-George, SAN, stated that the NMS provides a measurable framework for various justice sector entities.
The project aimed to bridge the gap between Nigeria's criminal justice laws and their practical application, involving collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice and other stakeholders to finalize the ACJA Amendment Bill. The project also included training for over 1,700 justice-sector actors and inspections of various institutions to assess compliance with the standards.
