CSOs Condemn Senator Fadahunsi's Violent Remarks

Civil Society Organisations have condemned Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, for inciting violence against members of the Accord Party during a campaign speech in Ilesha, Osun State, ahead of the August 15 governorship election. In a viral video, Fadahunsi warned his supporters to confront and kill Accord Party members if they encountered them, stating, “If we hear of Accord Party in Ilesha, there will be trouble.” Following backlash, Fadahunsi's media office clarified that his remarks were metaphorical, urging supporters to reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful means.

Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of the Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), condemned Fadahunsi's comments, warning that they could escalate tensions and undermine the electoral process. He emphasized that electoral violence must be taken seriously due to its detrimental effects on Nigeria's democracy and called for accountability for those involved in such actions.
