Nigerian Customs Launches Nationwide Drug Screening to Curb Substance Abuse

The Nigerian Customs Service has commenced mandatory drug screening for new recruits and serving personnel as part of sweeping reforms to strengthen discipline and professionalism in the agency. The move, announced by the Customs Comptroller General Adeniyi during a conference in Abuja, is aimed at eliminating substance-induced compromises in sensitive customs operations.

The drug screening will be integrated into the final stages of the recruitment process and will apply to both new intakes and serving officers. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of maintaining clear judgment and stable mental states among customs personnel, highlighting the need for regular medical check-ups to ensure physical and mental fitness.
