Customs Seizes 399 Jojef Firearms at Tin Can Port

On Sunday, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) completed the examination of a significant arms shipment at the Tin Can Island Port, uncovering 399 fully assembled Jojef firearms and various supplementary rifle parts. Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, reported that the arms were concealed in crates identified as components of Jojef pump-action rifles.

The additional parts included 89 frames, 16 heat shields, and several other components essential for firearm assembly. Adeniyi cautioned that criminal networks might exploit Nigeria's borders and ports to smuggle prohibited items, especially with the upcoming general elections.

He pledged to enhance surveillance and enforcement operations to prevent such activities. The NCS is set to hand over the seized armaments to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), emphasizing a collaborative effort to dismantle trafficking networks and ensure national security.
