Customs Seizes 20,500 Litres of Smuggled Petrol

The Nigeria Customs Service successfully intercepted 20,500 litres of premium motor spirit (petrol) worth N38 million during Operation Whirlwind at the Ogun and Lagos border. The operation, coordinated by Deputy Comptroller Abubakar Lucki Aliyu, involved the seizure of five vehicles used to transport the smuggled petrol.

The Customs Service emphasized its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's economy and tackling smuggling activities that threaten national security and revenue. The operation dismantled a coordinated smuggling network involved in the illegal export of petrol to neighboring countries.

The seized petrol, contained in 820 jerrycans of 25 litres each, will be auctioned publicly to ensure reintegration into the legitimate domestic supply chain. The Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, continues to enhance its enforcement measures and inter-agency cooperation to combat petroleum smuggling effectively.
