Customs Seizes ₦362m Contraband in Adamawa Operations
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, intercepted contraband items valued at over ₦362 million, including illegal wildlife parts, during intelligence-led anti-smuggling operations over six weeks. Comptroller Mohammed Aminu Tanko announced the seizures at a press briefing in Yola.
A significant interception occurred on June 9, 2026, when a DAF low-bed trailer transporting a Sany motor grader was stopped while allegedly being exported illegally to the Republic of Chad. Other seized items included 25,295 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), nine kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, 74 kilogrammes of pangolin scales, 64 pieces of raw donkey skins, 534.55 kilogrammes of dried donkey meat, and elephant tusks.
Three vehicles were also confiscated, and five suspects were arrested for investigation and potential prosecution. Tanko highlighted the operations' compliance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, and warned against smuggling's threats to national security and public health.
He reiterated the NCS's commitment to dismantling smuggling cartels and facilitating lawful trade.
