Nigeria Customs Service Reports ₦362.79 Billion Growth

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reported a revenue increase of ₦362.79 billion, representing a 29.68% growth, as part of its Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program. This program has contributed 21.77% to the total revenue collected, amounting to ₦7.281 trillion in 2025.

Customs duties rose by 85.66% due to enhanced compliance and increased legitimate trade volumes. Abdullahi Maiwada, on behalf of the Comptroller General of Customs, disclosed that the average compliance rate reached 85.45%, with cargo clearance times reduced from 168 hours to 41 hours.

The NCS commended several companies for their compliance, while also revealing that a recent certification of an AEO company was suspended due to false declarations. The AEO program, backed by the World Customs Organization, aims to enhance supply chain security and facilitate trade by offering benefits such as faster clearance and fewer inspections for compliant businesses.

The NCS is also working on broader reforms to modernize cargo clearance processes.
