Edo Community Faces Flooding Crisis from Ojirami Dam

The Ojirami dam overflowed in the Enwan Community, located in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, due to heavy rains that began around 6 am. This overflow resulted in significant damage, including the destruction of an oil mill and the loss of 1,400 birds at a poultry farm owned by Monday John.

Residents faced disruptions as students were unable to attend classes, farmers could not access their farms, and many stores remained closed. Chief John Omaze reported that floodwaters entered his home, damaging his property and palm oil mill.

Another resident, Ehis, expressed concerns about the potential for a major disaster if the dam were to collapse, urging the state government to take immediate action to prevent such an event. The community is currently grappling with the aftermath of the flooding and the fear of further disaster.
