Dangote Refinery to Produce Raw Materials for Detergent Manufacturing, Aims to Boost Local Industry

Dangote Refinery, led by its Chief Executive Officer David Bird, announced plans to start producing surfactants used in detergent manufacturing locally. This move is expected to boost Nigeria's manufacturing sector and reduce the country's dependence on imports.

The refinery will install a linear alkyl benzene lab plant to produce key raw materials for household cleaning products. By producing surfactants locally, the refinery aims to lower manufacturing costs, potentially reducing retail prices of detergent-related products.

The project aligns with Dangote Refinery's strategy of pursuing import substitution to strengthen local industries. In a recent development, Cameroon's state-owned oil refinery, Sonara, engaged in talks with Dangote Group to seek funding solutions to revive its operations.

The collaboration aims to explore long-term technical and economic cooperation to enhance fuel security in Cameroon and meet local demand. Dangote Refinery also aims to reach a fuel supply agreement in the short term to address Nigeria's tightening downstream petroleum market.
