Dangote's New Kenyan Refinery to Outperform Lagos Facility

Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, announced that the planned refinery in Kenya will surpass the Lagos facility in size and processing capability. During a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos with Kenyan President William Ruto, Dangote revealed that the Lamu Refinery is designed to process up to 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The facility will feature advanced processing equipment, including a coker for converting heavier petroleum residues into lighter products. Additionally, the refinery is expected to generate approximately 1,000 megawatts of electricity, with around 500 megawatts available for Kenya's national grid.

President Ruto confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lamu Refinery is scheduled for September 30, 2026, and stated that the Kenyan government has secured the necessary land for the project. He emphasized the refinery's potential to drive Kenya's industrial growth and create opportunities in various engineering fields.
